Whether you are competing to win, conquering a personal challenge, or just out to have fun with friends and family, there is an event for you!

55 km with pack Torskeklubben Birkebeiner

Recreate the legend of the original Birkebeiner skiers by carrying the equivalent of the infant crown prince, a 5.5 kg (12 lb) pack. This point-to-point course rolls and winds through the scenic Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area. This event starts at Ukrainian Village and finishes at the Waskahegan Staging Area. 55 km Madshus Birkie Lite

Looking for a personal challenge but want to travel lite, without the pack? Try the 55 km distance without the extra weight. This point-to-point course rolls and winds through the scenic Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area. This event starts at Ukrainian Village and finishes at the Waskahegan Staging Area. 31 km Mud Sweat and Gears Birkie Tour

A fun event geared to those wanting to ski an intermediate distance, testing their skill and stamina. This point-to-point course rolls and winds through the scenic Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area. This event starts at Ukrainian Village and finishes at the Waskahegan Staging Area. 13 km Global Edmonton Mini Birkie

This course will give you a taste of the Birkebeiner. Skiers in this event vary in age and ability, but they all seek the thrill of crossing the finish line! This event takes place at the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area; it starts and finishes at the Waskehegan Staging Area. Details here.

7 km Birkie Fun Ski

This recreational ski event is designed for beginner to intermediate adult skiers. The trail is a loop so you can decide to ski 4 or 8 kilometres. This event takes place at the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area; it starts and finishes at the Waskehegan Staging Area. Details here.

500 m, 2 km or 4 km Barnebirkie Family Ski

Parents and kids can enjoy cross country skiing together on a 500 metre, 1.5 km or 3 km distance event. This family fun takes place during the Silver Skate Festival in William Hawrelak Park in Edmonton. Details here.

Full Moon and New Moon Birkies

Cross country ski under the light of the full moon, or by the light of your headlamp under the new moon! Ski with a buddy or group up to 12 km on beautiful groomed trails in the forest at Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, then finish up with hot chocolate and snacks around a bonfire. The ski starts and finishes at the Waskahegan Staging Area. Details here.
